Description: Upstream regulators of myogenesis establish a complex gene regulatory network that affects the muscle satellite cells fate. The expression of several transcription factors that take part into this network can lead to the activation, proliferation or differentiation of satellite cells. One important step is the MYOD up-regulation after satellite cell activation, that induces MYOG mRNA transcription and reduction of PAX7 protein levels, leading to the differentiation cascade of satellite cells.
