Myofiber: Glucocorticoid-induced atrophy
Pathway ID: SIGNOR-MyoATRView in NDEx
Description: FOXO and Glucocorticoid receptor regulate the expression of two genes principally involved in the majority of atrophies. FOXO family members are involved in the activation of atrogenes such as Atrogin-1 and MuRF-1. Like FOXOs, Dexamethasone interacts and activates the glucocorticoid receptor that subsequentially leads to Atrogin-1 and MuRF-1 gene activation. Atrogin-1 and MuRF-1 induce atrophy by promoting protein degradation phenomena.
