Myofiber: Calcium-mediated fusion
Pathway ID: SIGNOR-MCMF
Description: Myoblast fusion is strictly dependent on calcium signaling. The intracellular increase of calcium leads to the activation of the Ser/Thr phosphatase calcineurin which dephosphorylates NFATc2, enabling its nuclear import. In the nucleus, NFATc2 promotes myoblast fusion by regulating IL4 and myoferlin production.
