Osteoblast: BMP
Pathway ID: SIGNOR-OsteoBMP
Description: Bone Morphogenetic Proteins (BMPs) have an essential role in osteogenic differentiation. Moreover, BMPs are involved in Heterotopic Ossification (HO) that occurs in some muscle pathological conditions. These cytokines bind Type I and Type II serine/threonine receptors that transduce signal into the cell. SMAD-dependent pathway and SMAD-independent pathway (a MAPK signal transduction) up-regulate osteogenic transcription factors, such as RUNX2, DLX5 and SP7, starting osteoblast differentiation.
