Description: Main pathways activated in the Intestinal Epithelial Cell (IEC) during Inflammatory Bowel diseases (IBD), which include Crohn's disease and Ulcerative Colitis. During IBDs, aberrant activation of signaling pathways such as NF-κB, MAPK, and PI3K/Akt/mTOR, together with dysregulation of the inflammasome (NLRP3), induces increased production of pro-inflammatory cytokines, alterations in proliferation and apoptosis, and modulation of the mucosal immune response. Furthermore, impaired autophagy further contributes to the persistence of inflammation and damage to the intestinal epithelial barrier.
